Not really. I can certainly understand your point of view.

There's been a lot of debate on this kind of thing in the past on this Forum. I've get the impression that most TMA contributors prefer the idea of sensitive restoration to the option leaving things as they are though. I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Concrete can be a good thing...

Indeed. That restoration appears to have been done very sensitively (and quickly!).

My objection is more about re-erecting stones that have fallen some time ago, maybe even in ancient times, than ones which fall over "these days" like your excellently restored example.

i am definately a restoration man - although it is unpleasant when you can see the concrete - like the stone on bernera which the Curtises re-erected. but that was in the seventies (i think) and I suspect they are a bit embarassed by it now. also, it's forgiveable because they have done so much extraordinarily sensitive restoration work on sites which nobody else gave a fuck about.
