>>As Layman Pan'g and Sung-shan were walking together one day they saw a group of monks picking greens. "The yellow leaves are discarded, the green leaves are kept," said Sung-shan.
"How about not falling into green and yellow?" asked the Layman."*<<

Please explain, Master Littlestone. Or is this the sound of one hand clapping!!

>Or is this the sound of one hand clapping!!<

Opening The Recorded Sayings of Layman P'ang at random the following is to be found on page 73 -

"One day Mrs P'ang went into the Deer Gate Temple to make an offering of food. The temple priest asked the purpose of her offering in order to transfer the merit. Mrs P'ang took her comb and stuck it in the back of her hair. "The transference of merit is completed," she said, and walked out."

The whole P'ang family were barking mad. Near the end of his life Layman P'ang loaded all his possessions (including his wife and daughter), rowed out to the middle of a lake and scuppered the boat.

Hope this helps, but I'm going to stop now before I get my wrists slapped :-)
