Ha! I had one of those somewhere near Sowerby Bridge last yr. I'd got half way across a field before the one containing the herd and one of them ran to the fence and made it clear in no uncertain terms, I wasn't welcome there.

Other cow fun includes
- sitting at the enclosure nr Kingston Russell for an hour and suddenly realising the herd in the field had surrounded the enclosure and they were all staring at us over the bank.
- walking to Greycroft and being edged out of a field by 2 particuarly inquisitive cows.
- never making it to Beee Low cos of the way the huge bull gave me the eye.
- most recently, trying to follow a footpath down from Lansdown and meeting about 20 cows who not only blocked me but then followed me back to the stile and stood there refusing to move.

Did I mention I hate cows...

you'd have loved what we encountered on the West Highland Way last year - came round a corner on a hill, path just wide enough for 2 people (or, say, a cow), sheer drop down one side, sheer cliff up the other, and a herd of cows stuck because they'd followed the path to a stile. luckily I once worked on a cattle farm, so with a bit of manouvering I turned the cows round and sent them on their way. you'd have loved it Jamie!

Mayburgh last week. The third of three visits, where previously cows had been all over the monument.

Park the car, "lovely, no cows!".

Cross to the monument, no cows in sight. Jog up the bank to be faced by about a dozen cows, all crouching down just below the apex. Boo!

"Pass me my brown trousers, Hardy.."

Must be something about the cows in Dorset. I was surrounded by a herd while trying to photograph the Hamptom Hill Circle. I had to get into the fenced area around the circle and wait for them to leave.Seemed like ages.

I managed to shoo the bull away from the stones and got a few photos. But he came back ... with his mates!
