Little Meg (Stone Circle) — Fieldnotes

First visit. Really nice place with a mellow vibe.I spotted the spiral on one of the stones. Despite the obvious cramming of the site, it felt right. As we were walking off we were followed a cute lovely little bird in the trees. Quite enchanting!

Mayburgh Henge (Circle henge) — Fieldnotes

When we stopped here on yule morn, i didnt expect to be impressed as the close prox of the large noisy road, so when i got the the top the henge bank and looked on my first words were "F***in hell" the sight of the flat surface and the surrounding henge and the stone in the middle blew me away. I LOVED this place, even with the road it is an athmospheric place, i had visions of how it may have been used, tourchlights burning, singing, processions, rites and rituals who knows but a great place, one of the best for me. Made me go WOW! A special place.

Long Meg & Her Daughters (Stone Circle) — Fieldnotes

Came up on the Winter solstice after Castlerigg, after getting lost(again) on the country roads arrived and ambled straight over the long meg hereself, her spirals seemed more pronounced than the last time I visited.

Long Meg and Her Daughters (or lovers?) is a great place considering the damage that the ignorant have attempted in the past. The sky here always seems and feel vast when I'm here.

Castlerigg (Stone Circle) — Fieldnotes

Spent the winter solstice sunrise here, whilst expected cloud prevented us viewing the sun, the atmos was great, the mist gave an allmost Arthurian feel to the site. I have visited this site a number of times( first as a a child) and i still think it is an amazing site in a simply wonderful setting. Said hi to Pebblethief as she was there, about 10 or so people there, include a man quietly walking round the circle blessing a baby and a Druidish type in the centre silently observing the solstice. Love it.

Carreg Coetan Arthur (Dolmen / Quoit / Cromlech) — Fieldnotes

7.7.02

This is my first cromlech. What a cutie. I love this place, despite its setting next to bungelows, this place feels special like something out of a fairie story, im waiting for the little people to pop out. It is small and looks like it could topple over at any point. This is the sort of place were you could sleep and dream and be inspired. Love it.

Pentre Ifan (Dolmen / Quoit / Cromlech) — Fieldnotes

07.7.02

Amazing site! This is one special place, the setting with views over cardigan bay and an acient oak forest is something else.
This Cromlech seems to change radically from which ever angle it is viewed from, you could take photos from all directions and you would not think it was the same place. I would love to come here at different times of the year/seasons. Very atmosptheric.

Pikestones (Chambered Cairn) — Fieldnotes

15.2.02
This is the second time i have tried to visit this site, success at last. It is much damaged but worth visiting in my opinion.
Their is a spiral carved in to the stone which is really cool.
This site is very open and the wind is blowing me about.
Although it has an information board up, it is not sighnposted from the road and not really known in the area.
Good views over Chorley and Preston. The field it is in are well boggy, so wear wellies or good boots. The area has a good atmosphere. I am going to try and find out a bit more about any Folklore about the area.
Live nr Preston in Lancashire. Iv loved circles, standing stones, cairns, burial chambers since i was about 8 when i visited castlerigg. Iv been to a lot more sites than i recorded as i visited them before i discovered this website and im planning to visit them again. Im a bit of a hippy at heart ( i was told recently that they could see why my site name was mushroom Si?), im married to Mel, i am a student Social Worker at Preston Uni, i love travelling, meeting people, all kinds of music, friendly pubs, readin, veggie food and kindness.
