ok, I am willing to concede that a box distant from the site may be ok. But personally I still don't need the lure of a box of stuff to encourage me to visit a site, or to get huge enjoyment out of being there.

Maybe I am being a snob, and I sound like I don't want to encourage people whose principal interest in a site is the opportunity to find a box of stuff. It's only because I've seen enough vandalism at sites (West Kennet, Stoney Littleton, etc etc etc) to really resent the type of visitor who has no respect for (I'm not talking spiritual sacred respect) and no real interest in the monument.

I'm sure you have fun, and I'm sure you don't spoil the sites yourself. This has turned into a very us and them argument. But the type of comments made by Messrs 'Nightcacher' kind of suggested that turning up with a can of lager to prove 'I woz ere ' was the order of the day.
