Well completely off the cuff, Happy Imbolic everyone. But could someone tell me whether it is today. tomorrow or the 4th February. The four seasonal festivities of the year, are presumably on the 1st day of their months. But then if they have been messing around with the calendars over time it doesn't really matter.......
The Coligny calender 'celtic' though roman lettering and found in a roman temple does not have the dates?, so presumably the Irish annals must be the right source.

Same to you Moss .
I can understand why the 4th is chosen .
The basis is midway between solstice and equinox 90 days .45 days after solstice =4th .

re imbolic at MotH, are there other irish tombs with similar orientation do you know?

Sorry ED , I'm sure it's dead obvious but MotH has me stumped .

Sorry, Mound of the hostages.
Was typing on phone.

Lol . Got it .

Listoghil is the obvious choice .

Given a general orientation 116 -126 for the date ,then there are about 10 Court tombs in De Valera's list of 173 (about 6%).
There are fewer Passage Graves with intact passages and whilst Frank Prendegrast PhD has the detail of them I haven't read it but have seen the orientations and not the names of the actual monuments .They are relatively evenly spread around the 360 degree horizon with a group of about 8 that would fit the Imbolc/Samhain bill .
