| Perhaps these have been online for a long time but I've just noticed them - they're the original drawings for the first ordnance survey maps, so they go back a long way (late 18th century, early 19th). I find it's just like time travel to see how the settlements and roads have changed in a place that you know well. They only appear to be for the south of Britain, you can look up the right number on this index http://www.bl.uk/images/maps/osdindex.jpg and then type it into the search 'within this collection' here http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/onlineex/ordsurvdraw/index.html and then zoom in (almost) to your heart's content.
