It's in a pub garden as well! I've put up some pics showing a stone that was meant to mark the way to the barrow + an old information board. Apparently it was originally one of five. Intriguing, no?

Anyway, the archaeologist at Essex county council I emailed wasn't too impressed, but there is definitely this stone (glacial erratic, presumably) about 300m from the round barrow, and surely it must have had significance for the ancients, as large stones are pretty thin on the ground in Essex.

The archaeologist also said that they'd found a Roman enclosure adjacent to the round barrow, which I didn't know about. She also confirmed that the barrow has never been excavated.

Anyway, does anyone know anything or have any ideas about the other four stones, or have any suggestions about a source for more info.
