I'd term 'opinion' as being a point of view in a rational argument, preferably one that is backed up by demonstrable facts. The Financial Services industry very nearly imploded since, it could be argued, Mr Blair and Brown did not exercise adequate controls during their terms of office. I understand Mr Goodwin used to visit Mr Blair at No.10 to discuss financial matters so the suggestion is that Mr Blair was well aware what was occurring. The fact that Mr Diamond's pension dispute was resolved after he apparently threatened to name names raises additional questions about the administration at that time, perhaps?

Whether Mr Blair and Mr Brown can be described as 'socialists' is debatable. What is certain is that the meltdown occurred on their watch and that the last coalition government was handled a poison chalice because of that. So yes, I do think it is an affront to complain in such absolute terms whilst summarily failing to take all aspects of the situation into account.
