That's a fair point, but I think the idea that there may have been covens actually working at the very time Gardner was developing his ideas is interesting - these "witches" may have had a direct impact on Gardner. It was that I was thinking of, rather than a more general history of "witchcraft" over the centuries.
It was a good programme though, as always, with Prof Hutton.
