When I was in Morroco June we camped against the walls of a redundent Foreign Legion fort one night and the sky looked like you were looking at it through a zoom lense. The moon appeared huge and the stars as big as tennis balls. All to do with the clean atmosphere no doubt but breathtaking.
Saying it was like looking through a zoom lens is exactly what I experienced and I'm sure your right about the clean atmosphere. Links in with the recent discussion about carbon emissions and climate change. Global warming aside, we can't escape the fact that most town and city dwellers live under a polluted atmosphere and never see the stars as they must have been experienced before the industrial revolution.
