Who originally named The Heel Stone thus...and when?
I know it is supposed to be a corruption of Helios Stone...and Helios being Greek(classical) for The Sun....are we trying to tie a name to a theory?

Looked this one up out of curiosity, apparently 'Heel' is a recent word (since about 1960 according to Castleden), otherwise it has been called Hele Stone, Friar's heel, Crwm Leche or the Bowing Stone, the Marker, Pointer Stone, Index Stone, Sun Stone all indicating its role in folklore and history. The marvellous Aubrey Burl though wrote an article on it in WAMHM 84 - The Heel Stone, Stonehenge; A Study in Misfortune.

Plus to heel may mean to lean , there was a similary leaning stone at Long Bredy with the same name .
