The two pictures that you've linked to, showing the process of the shadows near to noon, are very uncertain. The sun's position changes throughout the year and this will vary the shadow produced tremendously. I know absolutely nothing about this type of monument other than a knowledgeable guess as to how the capstone was placed. (In the same way as a bottom through in a N Pennine wall). If the archaeologists class them as tombs, on very little evidence, and you are suggesting that they are symbolic experiments in time and space then you will need to have your facts very well rehearsed and refined before you present them to anybody. Remember the three stages: ignored, ridiculed, accepted. You're just beginning stage 1 ...

Thanks Stoneglove,
Actually we're probably into stage 2, but we're in it for the long run!

We have already considered such things as the changing position of the Sun throughout the year, the zenith being lower in Winter and higher in Summer, but thank you for the advice. The quoit seems to have been very accurately positioned and shaped to take this into account but obviously we'll keep taking photos to see just how well it still performs.

We do not know how the capstone or any of the stones for this quoit were placed into position. It could be anything from excellent engineering to alien technology or the clever use of Earth energies (majik!) ;) lol

Our research is serious, but we try to maintain a sense of humour, too!
