Just adding this to the list, I'm fairly neutral on this, read the article and its an estate that is bringing in the 'devastation' word. In England it is of course 'nimbyism' that gets bandied about. It seems Historic Scotland have given the go ahead, or withdrawn from the fight ;)

I visited these sites last year. Yarrows trail is a great walk, a bit like the land that time forgot round there.

I spent a few days in Caithness a couple of years back on route to Orkney, it does indeed feel remote and pastural, with the nearest city being Inverness. The Dounreay Nuclear Power Station is up there near Thurso, now being decommissioned. The cost of running and decommissioning is Very Expensive indeed - http://www.power-technology.com/projects/caithness/
The cost to the planet is as yet unknown as it takes hundreds of years for the waste to become safe. Can we afford to gamble with the future in such a way, whilst claiming to protect the past? I ask this as a question not a statement - I won't be around so perhaps I shouldn't care quite so much.

There was an interesting debate on Question Time last night with Caroline Lucas from the Green Party coming up against Kelvin Mackenzie (editor of the Sun). Its worth a listen; I obviously agreed with Caroline though KM put forward a convincing argument and seemed to win the audience over. Its the first item discussed so you don't have wade through the whole programme.
