faerygirl,

Park up on one on the dirt tracks just to the west of the stones, walk south on the track, then simply climb over the fence and walk across to the stones. No fee.
Alright, so you still can't touch the stones, but at least you don't have to pay the obscene charges levelled by rip-off EH. They now charge you to park your car in the car park as well. A buoycott would sort it out, but too many foreign tourists view it as something to see so they can say they've "done Britain."
Go for a walk through the wider landscape instead, it's great.
