Yes I agree totally with you there LS but I doubt they'd see it that way in todays 'flog it and flee' food outlets. It's become a way of life to see youngsters walking around holding a burger in one hand, mobile phone in the other and seeing the ground beneath their feet as lifes wastebin!

Well of course we don't actually know what it is going to look like or what food they will sell and how it will be purveyed. If it ends up with young people driving to Avebury for snack gatherings (or whatever they call it) it will be no less of a shame than any one piece of added litter blowing down the High Street. The point is the NT are in a position of responsibility and whilst one can understand they have to take all opportunities within reason to obtain the money needed to break even overall (across all properties) let them make money somewhere else and not in the centre of the largest stone circle in the world.

Youngster getting a bad press again ... why on earth would they drive out to Avebury to 'snack', drop litter then push off, 99% of the people who visit Avebury do so because they are interested in the stones. I personally don't think Avebury needs another food (or tea) outlet - the NT cafe/restaurant does have a monopoly its true and for that reason alone they shouldn't be operating another outlet - rather improving the one they already have. Anything resembling fast food should be restricted to the NT car park area with plenty of bins nearby for rubbish.
On high days and holidays the villagers used to open up the village hall to serve tea, coffee and homemake cakes to visitors; I found this voluntary non-profit goodwill service extremely charming and hope they continue.
