it would be nice to find out a little more. forgive my greeness yet again but i'm utterly blown away by the whole story of this.
can you tell me are these stones found regularly?
also what's the score as regards archaeologists offering to make a plaster replica? is this standard practice? i mean without appearing too crude is there a market for artifacts such as this?
infact all the questions you asked a little further up would rock.
Genuine examples of rock art have been popping up in Orkney in the past few years ,almost all due to excavation as the marked rocks in Orkney don't tend to be in the open air .
The particular type of markings that are similar to those on the stone tend to be found in some burial contexts and in Skara Brae . It's not standard practice for archaelogists to do plaster casts of such markings these days . Some saddo might want to buy it , but who would be that daft ?
