I recall it was also a belief deeply held by the indigenous peoples of North America.
You probably do have the right to walk across Donal Trump's golf course; a recent Ramblers walk along the Mid Wilts Way took us straight across the fairway of a golf course ... the golfers had to stop playing and let us pass. They didn't really seem to mind though some of them looked faintly amused.
