Not the first English Heritage fiasco of its kind.

No need to remind contributors to TMA that a couple of years ago English Heritage staged a 'musical event' on Silbury Hill. Incredibly, that event was held at the same time Silbury was in the middle of English Heritage's 'stabilization' project! Talk about Silbury crumbling while bugles on its summit blew! Mind, along with English Heritage's other harebrained idea of placing a time capsule in Silbury (supported by a few half witted locals who should have known better) such musical events pale into insignificance.

Thankfully, a time capsule never was placed in Silbury, though it remains to be seen if English Heritage's 'stabilization' of the monument will stand its own test of time. Sadly, even if it does, the vast amounts of detritus resulting from Silbury's previous five minutes in the spotlight (ie the Atkinson/BBC shenanigans of the 1960s) look like they'll be inside Silbury for evermore - an everlasting testimony on how not to do things.

PS There's a rumour going round that some (female) opera singers can reach a pitch sufficiently high to shatter sarsen. I don't believe it for a moment but best be on the safe side - no opera singing at Stonehenge please and no blowing of bugles on Silbury Hill if you don't mind.
