I only learnt this recently but, using a digital camera seems like a pretty easy way to photograph in infrared, and the conversion of an old or inexpensive digital camera to photograph in infrared doesn't seem too difficult http://geektechnique.org/index.php?id=254 Once the infrared filter has been taken out though it might not be that easy to reverse it. Still, if you've got an old or cheap digital camera doing nothing much it might be worth a try.
