A friend and I are planning to go down to stonehenge for the solstice and were considering camping out at weylands smithy or somewhere nearby on the way up or down... does anyone know what the rules are about camping there?... I can't remember what the sign said... alternatively, does anyone know of a good campsite in that general area?

Basically no, you can't camp at Weylands smity. It is a national monument
and is a protected site. Camp on the other side of the Ridgeway if you must, in the trees, but please don't camp within the barrow area.

The nearest camp site, that I know of, is at further down the Ridgeway at Barbary Castle. This has a cafe, with a bar on site. tel 01793 845346
There are two campsites around Marlborough and the crop circle central at
The Barge - Honeystreet, at the very end of the Ridgeway.

If you do camp around weyland's smithy, the nearest fresh water tap can be found at SU 264835. Please don't wash your cloths here though.
