Was at Barbary Castle the other day and looked in to the lovely reconstruction of the Iron Age roundhouse there. In the space of less than a year someone had pulled out the thatch, kicked in two of the beautifully painted wattle-and-daub walls and scrawled graffiti on one of the carved beams. Sigh... The Roundhouse. This is close to my heart and the state of it now hurts me. Myself and my children helped to build the Roundhouse with the gang from Acorn Education and spent alot of our summer there during and after completion. We are very proud of what we helped to make and the pleasure it has brought to the visitors.One summer evening after completion a man was looking around it as my youngest son was inside and he said aloud "I wonder what the people were like who bulit this".(I think he thought it really was from the Iron Age). My son said "They're cool,I should now because I did it !" and then went into great detail with the way he mixed the poo,water and straw to make the floor and delighted in telling him that he had "Shit up to my earholes!".
