The paragraphs a) to f) below arrived in an email I got this afternoon from George Lambrick, chairman of the Rollright Trust. He is aware of recent discussions here. I hope his comments will be of interest to at least some of you.

a) People are quite right about the website badly needing updating. This is
related to a parallel issue concerning a re-jigging of the relationship
between the Friends and the Trust, which we are trying to get on top of as
one of several things that need sorting - the recurrent vandalism and arson has been a major distraction.

b) As most people appreciate, the Trust does need £000s for replacing and
repairing the hut, to employ our new site manager and to develop
intellectual access things (presentation, website, education packs etc etc -
all the stuff we still need to get on with). This is on top of routine
maintenance and paying rent for land we have leased etc. Our accounts are properly audited and submitted to relevant authorities as required by law.

c) The attack in September damaged one of the Kings Men stones as the result of a tyre being placed on top of it and set alight. Apart from the
blackening and killing of lichens, the stone was cracked by the heat which
is why bits have come off it. We have rescued the bits and are discussing
with English Heritage the best way to restore them (we hope remaining cracks won't lead to more loss but we're not sure).

d) We are looking into CCTV and security lights, but there is no electricity
to the site and installing it is extremely expensive; solar power may be
possible but there are complications.

e) The Trust urges anyone with any information that might be helpful in
apprehending the people responsible for this ongoing problem to contact the police.

f) We very much appreciate the many people who have expressed their support in the last year, which has been the most challenging we have faced. We hope that 2008 will prove much more positive.
