I'm interested in Blackstone Edge, as that is the place on the horizon from one of the important Bolton monuments. I've noticed that the Pennine Way traverses it - a very ancient trackway - and there's a spectacular hill that the Boltonians used to frame a specific rising sun. The hill's toward Bolton, from Tunstall - I think it's Tunstall - and looks a bit like a volcanic stack. I called it Bull Hill and then someone's told me 'that's not Bull Hill'. It would certainly be an ideal spot for a beacon fire tonight - it'd look great from Thurstones, Smithills ...
