The folklore mentioned in the newspaper is a bit fishy, isn't it: "According to local legend, it marks the spot where a woman collapsed and died on the road while carrying a basket of cockles back from Haddington market in the early 19th century. Her body was removed, but the cockles were left to rot, and the resulting stench led to a nearby home being named Cockles Cottage."
not to mention the strange remark that the two-tailed spiral 'looks like a cockle' (I think they might need to go and look at a cockle).
