Been up at Rudston and the surrounding area today (second time this week) and I was looking at the small standing stone in the corner of the church-yard. It looks like sandstone and is about 1m high. Does anybody know anything about it - has it always been on the site, or has it been placed there recently. Also next to it are 2 slab tombs. I thought they were modern, but when I got home and had a dig through the books I found this - '2 cists constructed of sandstone slabs were moved to the churchyard after they were excavated by Canon Greenwell in a barrow on Rudston Wold, 2.4km south of the church in 1869'
Does anybody have any information or ideas on which barrow they came from (Southside Mount??) Could the ickle stone have come from there too?
