As I said at http://www.themodernantiquaria[...]m/?thread=40918&message=512564 (ignored other than by an admittedly witty comment on the counter, which I hadn't even mentioned) that's why Heritage Action didn't originally call for a ban. And I've yet to hear why licencing would stop responsible detecting, even tho the question's been asked directly in that post & by others....

Nobody has ever said that no detectorists are responsible, just that the number who aren't justifies regulation.
