He also stayed at The Saracen's Head in Chelmsford High Street, which is still there and still called The Saracen's Head (or did he just write about it without actually staying there?). Dunno - this is getting complicated...
I have a postcard of the Waggon and Horse with a note on the back which reads, "A delightful 16th Century Pub which is mentioned in Charles Dickens "Pickwick Papers" - Chapter XIV." The phone number is given as Avebury 418 :-)
