moss, elsewhere, thinks Burl might have said the water table (around Silbury) was much lower through the bronze age. That would alleviate the need for 'legions' of boats and planes but not, I fear, the need for drains and plains.

I'm not sure - I'll go ask Mary (that's Mary Magdalene ;-)
