No need to go running off if you havve something to contribute. I think people just get a tad upset when a person's first post is a bit on the abrupt side (and I'm not saying yours was).
Can you imagine what would happen if you walked in to a pub and said something like, "I've never bought a drink here, but I have been watching through the window for ages and listening to you lot and you're a complete bunch o' bastards." That kind of thing is never going to endear you to anyone :-)
It's easy to do on a forum, because you're not face to face with the other people - near enough everyone falls foul of this at some time.
