Hmmm. But it's not a simple as that is it?
On the subject of long threads, see the Stone Shifting threads in 1993. About a thousand postings in all, by dozens of people. Fascinating constructive stuff, good tempered and constructive.
What are the chances of a thread like that now? Zero. It would collapse. Something has been lost from this forum and it ain't due to insults. If you're calling for greater politeness in the New Year shouldn't you call for an end to destructive posting as well?
