The answer is no. The only thing I can think of that comes close to (partly) destroying something in order to conserve it are rescue operations such as those for the Temple of Isis at Aswan. The waters of the High Dam at Aswan (completed in 1971) would have covered the temple and it was therefore decided to cut away the main components and move them to higher ground. These are drastic rescue measures that do not apply to Silbury.
