On the weekend of 14/15th May the Stonehengineers, mostly people who post on this site, will be conducting an experiment into how the sarsens at Stonehenge were transported. This experiment will be recorded and transmitted on June 20/21 by Channel 5 as part of a programme on Stonehenge.

The Stonehengineers will be using a team of perhaps twelve men with levers to move the stone (10 tons) up a field with a slope of perhaps 1 in 10. For details see; www.stonehengineers.co.uk

To provide a comparison another team of perhaps fifty men will try to haul a sledge loaded with ten tons of stone up the same field using timber rollers.

The experiment will take place in Derbyshire. If anyone would like to take part in this experiment contact me at [email protected]
