Dog worship; After looking at Noden's pagan temple, looked up other pagan temples in this area, of which there are quite a few. Pagan Hill temple in Bristol, also had a stature of a dog, slightly overweight sitting hound dog, it had what looks like a representation of a jewelled collar round its neck. The skeletons of dogs appear at Caerwent at the bottom of a well also probably votive offerings. In the story of the great chase of Twrch Trwth, the great boar that was hunted all over Wales and eventually driven out to sea in Cornwall, the story is based round Caerwent on Usk, and the Arthur legend, and the boar being chased over the river Severn.
In the long lists that are given of the men who set out chase the boar, dogs and horses are all named and when you think about it, a good dog or horse would be the equivalent of an expensive car today.. In the Mabinogion the lineage of dogs and horses are probably just as important as humans. Which begs the question did dogs have an earlier ancestrial role which is why they are depicted as gods? or accompanying gods (or goddesses of course.)
