No problem Oci, the info sheet repeats what it says on the website but here it is in entirety. There is also a booking sheet to fill in and return but it does say that you can book and pay by phone, the number is the standard Flag Fen number – 01733 313414

Flag Fen brings you this excellent opportunity to join this one day workshop and make a prehistoric knife!

Allan Course is one of the UK's foremost Flint-Knappers. Although a management consultant by profession he has been making flint implements for over 20 years and can create any flint artifact from British pre-history using only tools and techniques of the period. Many colleges and museums have commissioned Allan to make flint tool kits for study and experimental work. He has also appeared on television programmes such as BBC's "Meet the Ancestors", demonstrating how flint tools were made and used. Due to demand for his skills, Allan now only does demonstrations for projects and exhibitions which he believes are archaeologically worthwhile – such as Flag Fen!

Content: First you will learn how to make a flint scraper and a flint saw then use these tools to prepare a wooden handle for your knife. You will then make the flint blade for your knife and finally set it into the handle in the same way prehistoric man would have using glue and cord. The glue will be made from the materials that would have been used five thousand years ago - you will also make your own cord from stinging nettles!
When the day is over we promise that you will have a good deal of respect for your ancestors, many people who have done this course say that it helped them appreciate their own world more deeply!
We also promise that you will have a fun day and will of course be able to take home the tools that you have made.

Fee: £45 includes morning and afternoon tea/coffee
Bring a packed lunch or eat in the Flag Fen cafe

Time: Start 10am (Please arrive by 9.45am) Finish 4.30 to 5pm

We advise that you bring a pair of heavy duty gardening gloves.
