I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect the point I was trying to make, albeit cackhandedly, is that magnetism is a phenomenon in itself, and as such not really a reason for things to happen. When we invoke E.M. fields, we don't really know what they are (I don't anyway).

Yet we know that we can infer their existence from their effects.

There was somene in Fortean times trying to come up with a succinct method of quantifying "realness" and things that are inferred by their effects on other things were only deemed real if they were within an accepted paradigm.

What the fuck am I going on about?

I dunno, I know what I mean, I'm just not coherent enough to express it. Spent too long in scienceland I think.
