Anyway, read this: From the Darlington and Stockton Times: "Watchdogs asked for cash for green project by Steve Parsley ENVIRONMENT watchdogs have been asked to come up with hard cash to support an ambitious conservation programme launched by TV botanist David Bellamy earlier this month. The Swale and Ure Washlands Project has announced integrated plans for sand and gravel quarries across the area. The proposals include a study, which will aim to balance leisure and recreation projects with new wildlife habitats. Once consultation has led to a consensus of opinion, the team hopes the findings will become part of North Yorkshire County Council policy as well as an integral part of Richmondshire District Council's Local Plan - a blueprint for the future up to 2006. However, the necessary research comes with a price tag - and local authorities and fellow conservation organisations from across the area have been asked to contribute towards the cost, estimated at about £15,000. The Richmondshire Local Agenda 21 Working Group has been approached for help. It will meet to discuss the matter on Friday. A report recommends the committee sanctions a contribution of £1,500." It is this organisation that are encouraging the North Yorkshire County Council to grant planning permission To Tarmac at Thornborough. They are funded by the top five gravel extracters in the area, including LaFarge and Tarmac. They were paid £150,000.00 by the landfill company currently dumping household waste right next door to Thornborough. We have written to David Bellamy to give him an opportunity to start undoing the damage he has done at Thornborough.
