And shall I be boring and say that that stone (the polisher) has absolutely nothing to do with honing blades and everything to do with light and shadows? There are no wear patterns which sharpening stones assume and it's in a ritual landscape which may depend on calculations of time or season. The ancient antiquarians saw the megalith builders as crude and hairy - and perhaps they were - but they weren't uncivilised.
