Stood on the gate post of the roadside stones enclosure.
Stood on the gate post of the roadside stones enclosure.
There’s a housing estate going up right next door, that should enhance this dreary site no end.
They look like they’re in a line don’t they, it’s not a good straight line though.
They really really remind me of those mega big stones in Brittany.
Not what you want to see next to such a superb site. Notice the roadside stone isn’t there. It is I saw it.
A four poster in a cairn? where’ve I seen one of those before?
You can see how far you have to walk from the car, not far at all, don’t walk all the way up, unless you like wasting time.
I can only assume the central fallen stone is the missing fourth stone, not too big a leap is it?
Zooming over the stones to Malham moor settlement and field system.
Four posters are often involved with a cairn, clearly seen here.
It took us a while to find this one, we nearly gave up.
Trying to replicate the coflein picture that found us the cairn.
If you look at the pictures on Coflein you can see the clear passage of time, represented by moss growth.
Looks like were in danger of a bit of sunshine, run for your lives.
Closer to the cist, clearly we can only see the long sides of the cist, hopefully the end pieces are just below the grass, which grows thick and quick round here.
Just yards from the cairn Thesweatcheat pointed this out to me, looks to be a small fallen stone with stone hole and possible packing stones.

The Cefn Penagored ridge is in the background, it’s got a couple of kerb cairns.
It must be a ring cairn it’s got a sweatcheat in it.
Looking over Pennant cairn to Nant Esgeiriau cairn
Cadair Baerwyn left and Moel Sych right, Pennant cairn fore.
The totally emptied cairn, I wonder if it had a cist like nearby Nant Esgeiriau cairn
Cefn Penagored ridge rises on the left, two kerb cairns hide out there.
Considering how much rearranging has occurred here it is little short of miraculous the cist has survived totally intact.
Looking back at my other in cist photo of 7 years previous you can see a lump of stone has now gone, explain that if you can.
The cist lid looks like it could have been shaped from here.
The big cist lid can be seen fairly central
A bit of the cairn has suffered from some rearrangement. (A bit?)
Looking over the heavily modified cairn to Cadair Berwyn
