South meadows Caravan and campsite (Camping Site, Belford)

Easily found. Plenty of room. Good prices. Hot shower . Shop .
And not far from all that rock art and Duddo four stones.

Tobermory campsite (Camping Site, Newdale, Tobermory)

Not the largest of campsites, or the best equipped, but it is clean, qiuet and close to the Dervaig rows and Balliscate stones.

A small river runs close by but the sound of running water is preferable to road traffic anyday.
Midges were a nightmare at the end of May

I only met one owner presumably Catriona who was a very nice older woman. Gates are open all night so feel free to visit stones in the dark.

Travelodge Amesbury Stonehenge Hotel (Motor Lodge, Amesbury)

From Cornwall to Inverness all travelodges are identical, nicely kept ,smoking/non smoking, prices vary from £15.00 -- £65.00 ,one room can sleep 2 adults and 2 children.Theres a t.v, bath/shower and small continental breakfast but at £4.50 a bit pricey.Next door there is always a restaurant be it Little chef or McD's.But best of all it's just 3 minutes away from Stonhenge ideal for being first through the turnstile.
I like Travelodges because you always know what to expect and theres no old lady making sure your alright and no creepy 40yr old son at the bottom of the corridor.

Point of NessCaravan and Camping site (Camping Site, Stromness)

Run by very nice people, a simple campsite with good shower units, but no hot food.
Very close to Maes Howe ,Brodgar etc
Good views over to Hoy ,right next to Ferry terminal
The one draw back was the sheer drop into the harbour, keep small children close

Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park (Camping Site, Penzance)

A nice little camp site, with a good cooked breakfast.
From the bottom of the site when standing on tip toes you can see Brane Burial chamber and the path to it is right next to the camp site. The new path to Boscawen Un stone circle is just a few hundred metres down the road.
Good central location for all lands ends ancient sites

After visiting literally thousands ancient places and driving between fifteen to twenty thousand miles every year I can only conclude that I'm obsessed with these places, and finding this website ten years ago only compounded that obsession, at least I'm not alone anymore.

My favourite places are:

Ring of Brodgar
Callanish
Balnauran of Clava
Torhouskie
Swinside
Nine stones close
Bryn Celli Ddu
The Druids circle (penmaenmawr)
HafodyGors Wen
Gwal y Filiast
Grey Wethers
Boscawen Un
La Roche au Fees
Drombeg
Uragh
Talati De Dalt

and these are only the ones that immediatly spring to mind, so many stones and not enough lifetimes.
