One of the stones of the Ballymeanoch cairn with wonderful orange lichen.

Remains of the great holed stone lie abandoned in the nearby ditch.

Faint traces of axe head carvings on a slab in the exposed southern cist.

The rebuilt cairn’s stones looked superb in the early morning frost.

The slab’s location at the end of a row of modern houses makes it all the more striking

I found the pecked lines on this slab a particularly striking feature, linking up the natural cracks in the rocks surface, kind of confounding any ideas I have about rock art.
