Southern defences, looking toward the eastern peaks of the exquisite Nantlle Ridge.
Lost in the tussocky grass... but worth seeking out.
Looking across the monument to the northern aspect of the Alwen Reservoir.
With a superb vista of the major Snowdonian peaks....
An obscure semi-upland cairn with bags and bags of atmosphere...
The cairn (approx centre) overwhelmed by its landscape. As is the traveller.
This is a decent cairn in very vibey environs...
Approaching from Foel Ystrodur Fawr itself.... Dduallt is the peak top right (well worth a climb).
The lower eastern flank of Yr Aran accords a good viewpoint to appreciate the (presumably) prehistoric ‘short cut’ between Nant Gwynant and Cwm Lledr (upper centre of image). Among other things. Assumption is that is why we have the remains of a round cairn at Bwlch y Rhediad. Moel Siabod has her head in the clouds, top left...
Good spot to spend the evening.... with northern Snowdonia arranged upon the horizon in serried rank. The activities of not-so-modern ‘antiquarians’ are obvious.
The site (green knoll, just right of centre) as seen descending Y Garn, Y Rhinogydd. The little satellite site of Coed Dol Fawr is below to the right.
The excellent hill fort seen descending the wondrous Y Garn to Cwm Yr Wnin late in the day, Y Rhinogydd.
The full on wind – a feature of the week – ensured some unusual sensory perceptions. The mighty hill fort crowning Craig Rhiwarth is seen beyond, with Glan-hafon’s twin summits rising to its left.
What one might interpret as a possible displaced capstone?
The great hill fort from the head of the Nant Buarth Glas
Could’ve hung out all day... but there are a few other sites in the vicinity.
