Pole Hill

Visited 27.10.14

From the minor road which runs to the south there is room to pull in right next to the barrow.

The barrow is quite large (for this area anyway!). Approximately 1.5m high x 20m long.
It is covered by nine trees and surrounded by flat fields in crop.

Well worth seeking out if you happen to be in the area.

Round Barrow(s)

This is a single bowl barrow with trees growing on it, but it’s really the southern end of the Brightwell Heath bronze age barrow cemetery, which has now been largely ploughed out. It used to include the enigmatically titled ‘Devil’s Saucer’ which was a saucer barrow. If you look at the OS map there are still quite a few barrows in the area though.
