To avoid any confusion it's prpbably worth mentioning that the markings are on stone balls .
No Tiompan, you're wrong this time :) Look at the notes on drew's post. That chap saw them on the stone!
I know there were two of those stone balls found in the vicinity too, and that's in the article as well. But they were of the knobbly variety, they had 8 knobs apiece. They weren't spirally.

What is interesting is that all faces are carved ,which is relatively common in pictish stone but not in the usual rock art tradition .
Hmm yes I think that's what it was implying in what I read (on the rcahms record?), that it was reused later, and the spiral / 'horns' are pictish. Rather a nice touch if so.
Sorry wasn't suggesting that they were Pictish , although they may be .
Oddely they are more like trad spirals than Pictish ones .
There are a few Pictish stones with cup marks .
