What a lovely animal. Lucky you!
Lovely but terribly dangerous. Not because they attack humans but because we tend to tramp blindly across the moor and heather, accidentally step on them and then get bitten. Adder bites are very poisonous and while a bite probably wouldn't kill a healthy adult, I remember a child dying from an adder bite about thirty years ago in The Trossachs.
I was very lucky not to step on it. I was just about to when I noticed it. Too busy looking for Rock Art!
