If you decide to go for this one day, SC, I'd assume there would be a bus route past the Tafarn-y-Garreg pub on the A4067 to the south (since this road serves the nearby show caves). From the car park opposite the pub, a strong walker (i.e yourself) could ascend the Fan Hir ridge and then cross Bwlch Giedd to Fan Foel. Great walk... the Mam loved it a couple of years ago.....
If you wanted to catch the Cerrig Duon circle, however, you'd have to walk up the nearby Trecastle road and go up the Nant-y-Llyn route (with cairn) though [or vice versa - could do a circular?].
The Fan Hir ridge is a fabulous walk, worth the effort on it's own.
There is a Summer bus service in the Beacons that goes to places the normal service doesn't. May be worth checking out ont'net. Not sure what it's called, but it should be on the "National Park" website somewhere.
Thanks both for the info - I just got the Beacons bus timetable through the post - it starts on the next Bank Holiday Monday. Tomorrow Fan Frynych and Fan Fawr may be on the cards...
What a great site (nice pic!).
You'd like the walk to get there, but pick a fine day for the views.
Undoubtedly. On the ever-growing list!
