Mmmmm, know what you mean. Never been there but 10-15 m would loosen the collar nicely. Good intentions, I suppose and then things just settled that way. Easier than change, unless there's loose change to be made, or so seems to be the way.

As you say 'good intentions', but with no understanding that these monuments still have a great relevancy to a substantial number of people nowadays. It may as well have been stuck in a glass box in a museum.
Makes me wonder if these type of railing were erected to protect the monuments from the public, or the other way 'round? Don't want our people getting any 'funny' pagan ideas, you know? That would never do. Can't recall seeing them anywhere else except at the Whispering Knights at Rollright and Lligwy on Anglesey.
Cheers re the Irish pics....... I'm obviously no CianMcliam and of all the wild goose chases I've had over the years, ALL have been in Ireland. But I guess this makes the Irish sites even more sweet when you do get to one
