Whoa, dude. Nice shot you got there, the lighting is smashing.
Very kind of you to say so, Mr. Hob, sir. I was just in the right place at the right time today, to whit Cumbria in August - heavy showers and sunshine, blown in on an increasingly brisk westerly. It did improve as the day went on, and I even managed to remove the waterproofs in the afternoon.
Cracking photie, you removed your waterproofs.....you mean it wasn't raining!!!
Cheers Drewboy. I couldn't fail. If it's sunshine and showers, then looking south down Borrowdale produces fantastic lighting, usually much better than I have captured. I can recommend the top of Lattrigg, above Keswick for such a day. As for the rain, well, Seathwaite, at the valley head, is the wettest inhabited place in England, and also boasts the record for the highest years rainfall ever recorded in Britain. Not much hope for a Met Office BBQ summer there then. Castle Crag itself is well worth a visit, if only to marvel at the natural defences, let alone the views.
Trust you to go one step beyond the usual..... great angle - shows exactly why the site was chosen. Intended to head up that way when I visited last year but didn't have the energy. Must be getting old.....
Yup I tried to do the same for the Christ's Kirk/Dunnydeer I managed to get the showers but not the sunshine. Crag looks excl so next time, which might be fairly soon, I'll take a look. Cheers T E.
Gladman, thanks for the comment, it's appreciated. Indeed it is an unusual hillfort, in that it's virtually safe from assault from any angle, in its day. The photo does show the place well, at least better than from the valley (see previous photo - very poor). Likewise, I'm interested in the great variety you've shown in your own photo posts in such a short time, and with such a wide diversity. Keep up the good work. I like the Pike of Stickle shot from Cold Pike. So few people visit Cold Pike, yet you did. To me it shows an appreciation of the site (any site) in (its) the landscape (setting), which is an obsession of mine.
