are these cup marks prehistoric like? I only ask as in Derbyshire there are a number of cross bases with marks like these (Buxton and Monyash say) and often wondered what they were about and....whether they may be cup marks.

We've asked Stan Beckensall this question with regard to the cup-like depressions under one of the Jedburgh Abbey pillars (clearly not prehistoric):

Could the Reyfad cross socket cups be another example of Pica?
