Pass the Semtex! The Duke of Sutherland's 100 foot plinth and statue was built with subscriptions from "a mourning and grateful tenantry" to "a judicious, kind and liberal landlord". He was probably the richest individual in the country at the time of his death. He forcibly evicted more than 15,000 people from their homes in Sutherland.
